Blue Helmet Peacekeeping Mission Celebrates 15 Years

PHNOM PENH: The Cambodian peacekeepers Blue Helmet have been working with the United Nation’s Centre for Peacekeeping Forces by fifteen years now, in challenging missions around the globe. While presiding over a meeting with military officers at the Cambodia’s National Centre for Peacekeeping Forces, Minister of National Defence Tea Banh has congratulated the Blue Helmets, saying those fifteen years of works helped to improve Cambodia’s image internationally

Minister Tea Banh has stated Cambodia has been very proud of the troops for contributing with the world peace preservation. He has reminded of the hard train peacekeepers are daily committed, and reassured to increase participation of women, which at the moment consists of 20% of the joint forces.

According to Tea Banh’s speech, the Blue Helmet soldiers continues to incorporate its forces into the Peacekeeping Capability Readiness System, a group of engineers, Military police and demining forces. Director -general Sem Sovanny says that since 2006, more than 7,800 military personnel – including 494 women – were sent on 11 UN peacekeeping missions.The countries that have received Cambodian peacekeeping troops were Sudan, Chad, South Sudan, Lebanon, Cyprus, Syria, Mali, the Central African Republic and Yemen
